Join us for an impactful webcast on the critical practice of the Solemn Assembly!

The solemn assembly was a prominent feature in the revivals of the Old Testament. Also, throughout the history of the church, gatherings of solemnity have been one of the most vital parts of revivals that have occurred (as seen in Acts 2, and other historical revivals).

The nature of the solemn assembly is expressly stated in those two words: (1) Solemn: this gathering is unique in that a spirit of solemnity prevails as opposed to the levity with which many gather routinely for worship; (2) Assembly: this was a time when all the people of a community of faith regardless of age, or secular distraction, were to gather with the purpose of seeking the face of God.

There is a great need today for local churches to suspend routine activities, and bring their ecclesiastical programs to a halt with the express purpose of coming clean and pure before a Holy God, and returning to Him with wholehearted repentance. Until we repent of corporate sin, all other religious activity can become very repulsive to the God we claim to worship (Isaiah 1:11-15; 1 Samuel 15:22).

Through the practice of Solemn Assemblies, we can reorient and reconnect God's people back toward His word, His ways, and His will, as we seek to do His work.

Foundation for the Ministry of Preaching

11/18/2013

Such is the theological foundation for the ministry of preaching. God is light; God has acted; God has spoken; and God has caused His action and speech to be preserved in writing. Through this written Word He continues to speak with a living voice powerfully. And the Church needs to listen attentively to His Word, since its health and maturity depend upon it. So pastors must expound it; is is to this they have been called. Whenever they do so with integrity, the voice of God is heard, and the Church is convicted and humbled, restored and reinvigorated, and transformed into an instrument for His glory (John R. W. Stott, Between Two Worlds: The Challenge of Preaching Today, p. 133).

I Won't Let Go

I Won't Let Go

I want to let go, but I won't let go.
There are battles to fight,
By day and night,
For God and the right-
And I'll never let go.

I want to let go, but I won't let go.
I'm sick, 'tis true,
Worried and blue,
And worn through and through,
But I won't let go.

I want to let go, but I won't let go.
I will never yield!
What! Lie down on the field
And surrender my shield?
No, I'll never let go!

I want to let go, but I won't let go.
May this be my song:
"Mid legions of wrong-
Oh, God, keep me strong
That I may never let go!

10th Anniversary

We are so blessed to serve alongside fellow believers at First Baptist Church in  Crockett, TX! The outpouring of love, affirmation and encouragement on our 10th anniversary at FBC was humbling and overwhelming to D'Ann and I. As we opened each card Sunday night, our minds were flooded with memories and our hearts overflowed with joy. We appreciate the gifts, kind words and special memories that were shared. We had no idea what an amazing journey the Father was initiating in our lives one decade ago. It has been rewarding to see passion for God and His Word grow among us and produce the fruit of obedience! I still believe our greatest days are ahead of us! "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen" (Eph. 3:20-21)!

Truth vs. Error

  • The truth will stand up under scrutiny. It is a fruit that never bruises or spoils from handling. But error, like fish begins to stink after a few days. Therefore, let new ideas sit before you make a meal of them (The Christian in Complete Armour, Vol. 1, William Gurnall, pp. 204-205).

Praying When It Hurts

Praying When It Hurts - Keeney Dickenson
Strategic Renewal E-Devotional

If pain and prayer were people journeying over the terrain of your heart, you might make the following observations: Pain and Prayer are friends who often travel together.  Pain at times is very friendly to Prayer, but at other times Pain wants to have nothing to do with him.  When Pain is not around, Prayer becomes very complacent and apathetic.  But when Pain returns, Prayer seems to have a renewed passion.  Pain and Prayer take turns driving and navigating.
Pain is a reckless driver and when he navigates they tend to get lost.  Prayer’s driving is much safer, but he sometimes becomes distracted and needs Pain to help him to refocus.  Pain will reluctantly admit that Prayer is the best navigator because he has a good sense of direction.
On their journey, Pain and Prayer travel through the Desert of Depression; they cross the Valley of Suffering; they ride the Rapids of Opposition; they hike to the Cliff of Impossibility; they travel the winding roads of Frustration and Desperation; they are delayed at the Dead End of Disobedience; and they take what seems to be a detour, but find themselves journeying on the Providential Pathway toward divine destiny.  The highlight of their journey is the renewal of their friendships with Forgiveness, Submission, and Brokenness...

Humility in Service

7/20/2013

Knowing your strength lies wholly in God and not in yourself, remain humble--even when God is blessing and using you most. Remember, when you have your best suit on, who made it and who paid for it! God’s favor is neither the work of your own hands nor the price of your own worth. How can you boast of what you did not buy? If you embezzle God’s strength and credit it to your own account, He will soon call an audit and take back what was His all along. Even when He seems the most generous with your spiritual allowance, He still keeps the account in His own name and can at once reduce you to spiritual poverty if you misappropriate His grace. Walk humbly, therefore, before God and manage well the strength you have, remembering that it is borrowed strength (The Christian in Complete Armour, Vol. 1, William Gurnall, pp. 41-42).
